A study performed in Washington state - USA, with 361 pediatric patients showed that 11,6% patients experienced pain during restorative or surgical dental treatment. Lidocaine (2 % with 1:100.000 epinephrine) was used in 312 of 316 patients (86,4 %). Data suggest that painfull dental treatment is relatively frequent and the incidence of ineffective pain control may be less if dentists use methods to reduce anxiety.
